[Kyoto]Iwato Ochiba shrine, a shrine of history and ginkgo2013.12.18

This shrine includes two shrines, Iwato shrine and Ochiba shrine.

It is famous for its beautiful big ginkgo tree. In the autumn, this shrine overflowing woth the yellow ginkgo leaves. Fallen leaves looks just like gorgeous yellow carpet.The enshrined deity of Ochiba shrine is Ochiba no Miya, an Imperial princess of Heian era. This princess appears in “the world’s oldest full-length novel,” the Tale of the Genji.
