“Kiyomizu-dera”, the magnificent temple of Kyoto2013.01.06

”Kiyomizu-dera” is a temple in Kyoto ,which built in more than 1200 years ago.
The main hall of temple is called “the stage of the Kiyomizu-dera”.?Kiyomizu temple has the depth of 30 meters, height of 18 meters, and width of 36 meters.The monk who received a revelation in a dream went to the north?according to a revelation, and he discovered a waterfall called ” waterfall of Otowa”.Then he met a master monk whose age was 200, and accepted holy tree.?He carved buddha’s statue and built a small temple on a waterfall in order to worship the statue.?This is the origin story of “Kiyomizu-dera”.?”Kiyomizu” means “beautiful water” in Japanese.Because of “Kiyomizu-dera” is too magnificent and too high, Japanese people uses a proverb “Jumping from the stage of Kiyomizu-dera” as a means of “make a bold decision.”People who really jumped off from the stage were 234 cases from 1694 through 1864 and the survival rate seemed to be 85.4%.?More than 40 people were died!!Though fences are built around the stage and jump are forbidden now, please don’t try it when you come to Japan for sightseeing!
