The Icicles of Misotsuchi (Misotsuchi no Tsurara) is located in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, which is 2 hours far from Tokyo. This place is known as the winter of Okuchichibu (the interior of Chichibu) because of its beautiful art of ice created by nature in the Okuchichibu Mountains Region.
The spring fresh water trickled on the rock surface gets frozen by the cold weather and creates these huge icicles in process of time. You can only see the icicles from the middle of January to the middle of February. During this season, the icicles are lighted up between 17:00 to 21:00 everyday, which attract many visitors to this small village every year in spite of its coldest season here and bring them into a fantasy world. A wood deck is installed.
The theme of this illumination has been remodeled from 2015. There are four main colors, pink, green, red, and white. Each color is inspired by Japanese four seasons, splendid cherry blossoms in the spring, beautiful fresh nature in the summer, red and yellow leaves in the autumn, and gorgeous icicles in the winter. These colors create 36 patterns of sceneries and the combination of these patterns demonstrate the transitions of seasons. There are short pauses of blackout in the illumination, and it is the time to enjoy the night sky with many twinkling stars. Each time the lights alter the colors, it shows different mystical sceneries because of its small creek dividing the valley floor. There is a small restaurant close by, which offers local delicious foods, such as amazake(sweet Japanese sake) , and miso potatoes(potetoes with miso paste).
