Tatami is a traditional flooring material in Japan.

It is made of soft rush straw and the basic dimension is 910mmx1820mm. It is usually used several tatami to make a room. It had been commonly used for a tea room in Muromachi period and most of houses had tatami for each room in Edo period. In these days, there are less houses which has tatami rooms, however, there are lots of promotions how to reuse tatami to reconsider Japanese culture, for example, install a tatami in a living room or play room.

Since you can feel Japanese culture by having the tatami room in your house, why don’t you try to have one?
