[Mie] “Meoto Iwa” , the mysterious rock believed as the dwelling of gods2013.06.06

“Meoto-Iwa” is a pair of unusually shaped large rocks in Mie prefecture; larger one and smaller one.

“Meoto” means husband and wife and “Iwa” does a rock. In Japanese history, these rocks have been believed as matrimonial happiness, safety of the family and the excellent wild catch. People still think that the gods dwell within these rocks.

In Japan, there are a lot of “Meoto Iwa”. The rocks of “Futami Okitama Jinja (Japanese shrine)” are famous.
