A traditional Japanese-style breakfast consists of: steamed rice, miso soup and a side dish such as grilled fish, tamagoyaki, natto, pickles, etc.
If you have the chance to stay at a Ryokan (Japanese style hotel), then you must try their breakfast. It is quite amazing to see lots of small dishes neatly presented on a tray. It is possible to observe and experience Japanese food philosophy even at breakfast. For example: Miso soup is gentle on your stomach and increases your appetite, Rice will wake your brain up and keep you going until lunchtime and the colorful small dishes will cheer you up in the morning.
Since nutritional experts believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why not start your day with a Japanese style breakfast.
